The New REOTEMP Super Duty Digital Compost Thermometer with Fast Response (DCXXPFX) is a high accuracy probe which features an easy-to-read digital display with integrated probe handle. The Fast Response design results in a 20% faster read time vs. the Heavy Duty model, speeding up the temperature collection process. The durable 3/8” diameter stem is thicker than the Heavy Duty model. Like the Heavy Duty model, the stem can be bent and still function. The Super Duty Digital comes with a 1 Year Limited Warranty and is made in the USA. Our digital units are accurate to ±0.95°F at 131°F (±0.53°C at 55°C). The battery life is rated to 5 years.

expected it to be faster kinda pricey for the response time
The robust stem diameter helps to prevent bending when pushing the thermometer into dense piles with potential blockages, while the tip allows for quick temperature read. The digital readout allows for extremely accurate measurement and prevents misreads.
Robust, simple, easy to use, faster response and greater accuracy/reliability than analogue/dial probes. Some biosecurity Regs require accuracy of 1% and you cannot get that from analogue dial probes. These are much faster and don't bump out of correct reading like the dial on analogue probes do so easily. What these do need is a manufacturer procedure for calibration to be added to/provided with the instructions. Operational process control requires accurate temperature readings, and numerous Regs and product standards require processors to have a procedure for calibration. Come on Reotemp... this is a great product, the industry needs the final 2% from you for this to be perfect.
I called and asked a customer service rep how far the end of the device had to be immersed in the material being measured. I was told a third of the 6' probe had to be in the material - which is impossible in my application. To my great relief, literature coming with the device said the temperature sensitive chip is 1" from the bottom, meaning the device is perfect for my application.
